Residential outdoor timers willplug into any outlet.Electric code: 15 amp timers can be plugged into 15, 20 or 30 amp circuits.
20amp timers can only be connected to 20 or 30 amp circuits butnot 15 amp.
All timers shown on this page are 15 amp .. almost all 120 voltplug-in timers are 15 amp .. and are ok for any outlet.
Rating
Notetimer rating plate. Timers will typically work with LED, CFL,incandescent bulbs usually up to 1000-1200 watts. And will usually workwith little birdbath pump etc. Not all timers are rated for pool pumps, larger motors or fluorescent bulbs.
Life span of timer is reduced if circuit draws more power than rating.
Safety
Best to unplug cord or timer from power each time when working on outdoor lights, pump etc
Always plug timer into GFCI-protected outlet. Recommend testing GFCI each time using test and reset buttons.
Doubleinsulated, 2-prong timers are safe but do not trip GFCI instantly ifperson encounters fault condition in the cord or lights.
Without proper grounding, a GFCI works, but does not protect as quickly.
If timer has ground plug. Do not cut off.
3-prongtimers plugged into properly grounded 120 volt GFCI outlet will tripthe GFCI instantly if fault occurs anywhere on circuit.
Only 1 GFCI per circuit. Multiple GFCI can cause tripping.
